Ingredients

1 cup shortening

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ teaspoons salt

Instructions

1. Beat sugar and shortening with an electric mixer until smooth.

2. Beat in eggs and vanilla until fully incorporated.

3. Add flour and salt, mixing until just combined.

4. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.

5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

6. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thick.

7. Cut into snowflake shapes with a cookie cutter.

8. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.

9. Bake for 6–8 minutes until edges are golden brown.

10. Cool on baking sheets briefly, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

11. Decorate with royal icing or buttercream as desired.
