Authentic Italian tiramisu made with mascarpone, coffee-soaked ladyfingers, and cocoa powder. Rich, creamy, and surprisingly easy to make.
3 eggs, separated
1/2 cup caster sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
250g mascarpone cheese
1 1/4 cups strong black coffee
2 tbsp Kahlua or Frangelico
200g ladyfingers
Cocoa powder for dusting
1. Beat egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick.
2. Add vanilla and mascarpone and mix until smooth.
3. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
4. Fold mascarpone mixture into egg whites gently.
5. Mix coffee and liqueur together.
6. Quickly dip ladyfingers into coffee mixture.
7. Arrange first layer of ladyfingers in dish.
8. Spread half the mascarpone mixture on top.
9. Add second layer of coffee-soaked ladyfingers.
10. Spread remaining mascarpone mixture.
11. Cover and refrigerate for at least 5 hours.
12. Dust with cocoa powder before serving.
Use high-quality mascarpone.
Do not over-soak ladyfingers.
Chill overnight for best flavor.
