This easy sausage and peppers recipe is a classic Italian-American one-pan dish made with juicy Italian sausage, sweet bell peppers, onions, garlic, and herbs simmered in white wine. Perfect for sandwiches, pasta, rice, or serving straight from the skillet.
6 sweet Italian sausage links
2 tablespoons butter
1 medium yellow onion, sliced
1/2 medium red onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 cup dry white wine (or chicken broth)
1. Cook sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned on all sides, about 5–7 minutes. Remove and slice.
2. Melt butter in the same skillet and sauté onions and garlic for 2–3 minutes.
3. Add bell peppers, basil, and oregano, stirring until fragrant.
4. Pour in white wine and cook until peppers are tender, about 5–7 minutes.
5. Return sausage to the pan, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
6. Stir occasionally until sausage is fully heated through and flavors combine.
7. Serve hot in hoagie rolls, over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.
Use a mix of sweet and hot Italian sausage for extra flavor.
Do not overcook peppers; they should stay slightly firm.
Chicken broth can replace white wine if needed.
This dish stores well in the fridge for 4 days or freezer for up to 3 months.
Great for meal prep and sandwiches.
