Soft baked Red White and Blue Donuts topped with colorful patriotic glaze for summer celebrations.
2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup raw cane sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Vanilla frosting
Red food coloring
Blue food coloring
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F and grease donut pan.
2. Whisk butter oil and sugar together in a bowl.
3. Add eggs and vanilla and whisk until combined.
4. In another bowl combine flours baking powder salt and nutmeg.
5. Add half dry mixture into wet ingredients.
6. Stir in buttermilk then remaining dry ingredients.
7. Fill donut pan with batter.
8. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes until lightly golden.
9. Cool donuts completely.
10. Melt vanilla frosting and divide into three bowls.
11. Color one bowl red and another blue.
12. Create glaze stripes in shallow dish.
13. Dip donuts into glaze and allow to set on parchment paper.
Do not overmix the batter.
Allow donuts to cool before glazing.
Add sprinkles immediately if desired.
