This old-fashioned peach cobbler combines juicy fresh peaches with a buttery homemade cobbler topping for the ultimate Southern dessert.

Ingredients

8 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced

1/4 cup white sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon lemon juice

2 teaspoons cornstarch

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup white sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled

1/4 cup boiling water

3 tablespoons white sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 425°F

2. Combine peaches, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch

3. Transfer mixture to a 2-quart baking dish

4. Bake peaches for 10 minutes

5. Combine flour, sugars, baking powder, and salt

6. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs

7. Stir in boiling water until combined

8. Remove peaches from oven

9. Drop spoonfuls of topping over peaches

10. Mix cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle over topping

11. Bake for 30 minutes until golden brown

12. Cool slightly before serving

Notes

Use ripe but firm peaches for best results

Frozen peaches can replace fresh peaches

Allow cobbler to rest before serving

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream
