Classic little layer chocolate cake with thin layers and rich chocolate frosting.

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup butter

2 cups sugar

6 eggs

3 cups milk

3 cups flour

2 tsp vanilla

3 cups sugar

1 cup butter

1/2 cup cocoa

1/4 cup water

2 cups evaporated milk

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F

2. Cream butter, shortening, and sugar

3. Add eggs one at a time

4. Mix in vanilla

5. Alternate flour and milk

6. Spread thin batter layers

7. Bake 5-7 minutes each

8. Prepare chocolate frosting

9. Stack layers with frosting

10. Finish and serve

Notes

Keep layers thin

Use warm frosting for easy spreading

Do not overbake layers
