This easy hamburger casserole combines ground beef, pasta, cheddar cheese, and classic burger flavors into a comforting family dinner that’s quick, cheesy, and satisfying.

8 oz elbow macaroni

1 lb ground beef

1 large yellow onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1 (14 oz) can diced tomatoes

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/4 cup chopped dill pickles

1/4 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons yellow or Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon kosher salt

6 oz shredded cheddar cheese, divided

2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds (optional)

1 head romaine lettuce, chopped

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Cook macaroni in salted boiling water until very al dente, then drain.

3. Brown the ground beef in a skillet until fully cooked and no pink remains.

4. Transfer the beef and pasta to the baking dish.

5. Cook onion and garlic in the skillet until softened.

6. Add diced tomatoes, mayonnaise, pickles, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, pepper, and 1 cup water.

7. Stir the sauce ingredients together until combined.

8. Add 3 ounces of cheddar cheese to the mixture.

9. Pour the sauce mixture into the baking dish and stir everything together.

10. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese and sesame seeds if using.

11. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

12. Top with chopped romaine lettuce and serve immediately.

Notes

Prepare the casserole up to one day ahead and refrigerate before baking.

Add pickles, tomatoes, jalapeños, or extra cheese for variation.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Freeze for up to 3 months.
