A vibrant, sparkling Cranberry Orange Punch, perfect for holiday gatherings. This easy-to-make, versatile drink features a blend of tart cranberry and sweet orange juices infused with warm cinnamon and star anise, topped with a refreshing fizz. Easily adaptable for both adult cocktails and kid-friendly mocktails, it's designed to add festive cheer without stress, focusing on wholesome ingredients and natural flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

4 cups Unsweetened Cranberry Juice
2 cups Fresh Orange Juice
3 cups Ginger Ale or Sparkling Water
3-4 Cinnamon Sticks
2-3 pods Star Anise
1/2 cup Fresh Cranberries
1-2 oranges Orange Slices
1-3 tablespoons Maple Syrup or Honey

Instructions

  1. Simmer the Flavor Base: Pour the unsweetened cranberry juice and fresh orange juice into a medium saucepan. Add the cinnamon sticks and star anise pods. Gently bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat (do not boil). Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes. This allows the spices to infuse deeply into the juices
  2. Cool and Infuse: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the juice mixture to cool completely to room temperature. You can even refrigerate it for a few hours or overnight for more intense flavors
  3. Strain and Sweeten: Once the base is thoroughly chilled, strain the juice mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher or punch bowl, discarding the spent spices. Taste the juice and stir in 1-3 tablespoons of maple syrup or honey, adjusting to your desired sweetness
  4. Add the Fizz: Just before serving, pour in the ginger ale or sparkling water. Gently stir to combine to ensure maximum effervescence
  5. Garnish and Serve: Fill your serving glasses with ice. Ladle the Sparkling Cranberry Orange Punch into each glass. Garnish each serving with fresh cranberries and a thin orange slice. For an extra festive touch, add a sprig of fresh rosemary

Notes

Make Ahead: Prepare the spiced juice base a day or two in advance. Simmer, cool, and refrigerate to deepen flavors. Add fizz and garnishes just before serving.

Garnish Generously: Beyond cranberries and orange slices, consider fresh rosemary sprigs, orange twists (made with a vegetable peeler), or a sugar/sprinkle rim for glasses.

Creative Ice Cubes: Prevent dilution by making ice cubes with extra cranberry juice, or by freezing fresh cranberries and orange zest with water into ice trays.

Adjust Sweetness to Taste: Always taste the spiced juice base before adding sweetener. Start with a small amount and adjust incrementally.

Presentation Matters: Serve in a beautiful punch bowl or pitcher. Keep the punch bowl chilled by placing it over a larger bowl of ice. Pre-chill all ingredients for best results.

Storage: Store the spiced juice base (before adding fizz/alcohol) in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Always add carbonation just before serving.

Leftovers with Carbonation: If you have leftover punch with fizz, store in a sealed pitcher in the refrigerator and consume within 1-2 days (fizz will diminish).

Warm Version: Gently reheat the spiced juice base on the stovetop over low heat. Serve warm in mugs, omitting sparkling components until serving, or adding them just before serving for an effervescent treat.

Freezing: Freeze the spiced juice base in ice cube trays for flavored ice cubes, stored in an airtight freezer bag for up to one month.
