6 slices day-old bread, torn into small pieces

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup raisins (optional)

2 cups milk

3/4 cup white sugar

4 large eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F

2. Place bread pieces into an 8-inch square baking dish

3. Drizzle melted butter over bread

4. Sprinkle raisins over top if using

5. Whisk milk, sugar, eggs, cinnamon, and vanilla together

6. Pour custard mixture over bread

7. Press bread gently with a fork until soaked

8. Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown

9. Remove from oven and cool slightly
