Classic Southern biscuits and gravy featuring flaky buttermilk biscuits topped with rich homemade sausage gravy. Ready in just 15 minutes.
8 flaky buttermilk biscuits
1 pound pork sausage
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups half and half
1 tablespoon butter
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
1/8 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1. Brown sausage in a large skillet and crumble while cooking
2. Remove most of the grease from the pan
3. Add flour, butter, and half and half
4. Cook over medium-low heat while stirring frequently
5. Continue cooking until gravy thickens
6. Add thyme, rosemary, red pepper flakes, and black pepper
7. Warm biscuits and split them in half
8. Spoon sausage gravy generously over biscuits
9. Serve immediately while hot
Store leftover gravy in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days
Add milk or half and half when reheating if needed
Freeze gravy for up to 3 months
Biscuits can be frozen for up to 5 months
